Staging With Black Friday Sales
Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is one of the worst days of the year to try shopping. Everyone is out scooping up the great deals. If you’re trying to sell your home, this can be a great opportunity to get your home show-ready, even if it might mean braving the crowds. Here are some things to look for:
A cheap card table and a table cloth. A few stores are advertising card tables for next to nothing. Add a discounted table cloth (there are some nice ones on sale for the holidays) and a vase with some flowers in it, and you have a beautiful addition to your home.
Curtains. Almost every department store has home furnishings on sale. When you’re selling in the winter, curtains should be a little thicker than the ones used during the summer months; you want to encourage potential buyers to feel cozy. You might also be able to find matching throw pillows to match the curtains to the other furniture.
Matching… everything. If none of your towels match, and if most have seen better days, you’re better off hiding them when you’re showing your home. That being said, if you can afford to take advantage of the deals on towels that will be available this Friday, you might be able to find a set that matches your bathroom and that looks nice enough to put on display. This is also the time to look into matching hand towels and pot holders for in the kitchen, if you keep any on display.
New appliances. This one might seem a little counter-intuitive. If you’re trying to move, why spend the money on a new washer and dryer or fridge? Because they will help your home sell. Everyone appreciates new appliances, especially if they are “green” appliances, resulting in years of lower utility bills. You might also be able to list your home for more, to make up for part of the cost of your new purchases.
Vacuums, steam cleaners, and other cleaning supplies. These aren’t really for staging, but if you’re looking to get a great deal on the things you need to get your home cleaned up for a showing, Friday might be the day to go out and pick some of them up.
Anything organizational. Clutter is a deal breaker for many home buyers. It’s hard for them to see themselves in a home if all they can see is papers scattered around, toys in every room, and all of the other miscellaneous clutter homes tend to gather. Storage bins, rolling carts, and lots of other organizing materials will be on sale this week—make the most of it.
Black Friday isn’t the only time to get these deals; most stores will have great prices throughout the holiday season. And remember that most deals are also available online. Don’t brave the crowds unless you really want to. Brew up a cup of coffee, and you can get all of your shopping done from the comfort of your own home.
