New Homeowner Wish List

One of the first things many new homeowners realize when they more into their first place is that, regardless of how much stuff they thought they had in their apartment, they probably need more for an actual home. Apartments, generally, are a lot smaller; they fit less stuff. That minimalist living room set that crowded the apartment looks almost miniature in the new place.
If you’re buying for a new homeowner, you may be wondering what the perfect gift idea would be. Let me help. Here are some of the most popular gifts for first time owners.
A tool set, a ladder or a power drill. Owning a home means keeping up with home repairs, and they’re going to need some quality tools to do that. You may also consider a book or two that will discuss how, exactly, they should be doing those repairs.
Another great idea is a gift for the kitchen, especially if the recipient loves to cook. A new small appliance, a set of cook’s tools in a decorative holder, or even a nice set of kitchen towels with matching potholders can make very nice gifts. A serving set, perfect for when the new owner has guests over for dinner, is also a good choice.
New owners who love spending time outdoors will appreciate a volleyball or racket ball set, horse shoes, or some other outdoor game kit. A set of patio furniture or a hammock, perfect for enjoying California summers in, or a grill would also make for a very happy Christmas morning.
Baskets, shelves and other organizational products are always a good idea. No matter how much or how little the new owners have, there is very rarely enough space to actually put everything. An organizational system is the perfect idea for someone who has difficulty keeping everything straight.
Give a personalized gift. A door mat with the recipient’s last name written across it, or a new address wall plaque are great gift ideas for new owners. It’s a little something that allows them to declare the home as their own.
If you aren’t sure what the new homeowners have or need, a gift card may be the best choice. Instead of just sticking the gift card in an envelope, make up a small gift basket, complete with a few smaller home items (candles, for example). The recipients will be able to pick out what they really want, and you’ll know that you have given them a gift they can use.
